Every day people in our area find themselves in need.  Below is a list of resources to help you and your family:

Please note that each organization has its own rules, regulations, or steps that you must follow. Some of these organizations have waiting lists.  If you have a child in public school, please contact their school social worker by calling the school and asking to be transfered. They have additional resources that they may be able to use to get you assistance faster.

Micah Hospitality Center

Hesed House

24 hours, 7 days a week; Converted hotel-shelter, providing interim housing for neighbors overcoming homelessness to bridge the gap between homelessness and permanent housing.


Respite House

  • Micah’s Residential Recovery Program, aka Respite House, focuses on those sick enough to need family, hospice or home health care, but well enough that they could be discharged to their home, if they had one.

Micah Cold Weather Shelter

  • A temperature-based overnight shelter for people who would otherwise be outside in freezing weather. Micah’s Cold Weather Shelter operates mid-November through mid-March each year.
  • Men: 750 Kings Highway. Men access the building through the back door, up the long ramp
  • Women: 1019 Princess Anne Street. The entrance to the women’s shelter area of the church is on the Amelia Street side (red door)

The Central Rapphannock Regional Library can also be a good source for free resources.  They often have free COVID tests, free lunches for children during certain times of the year, free books, movies, computer usage and many other things.  You can find more information at librarypoint.org or check out 20 Plus Things You Can Use At The Library.
