St. Patrick's Day

March 17, 2021

Those pesky little leprechauns like to cause mischief and wreck havoc.  A few days before St. Patrick's Day, start talking about leprechauns and things they like - the color green, rainbows, sparkly things, and pots of gold.  Then let your kids create a leprechaun trap to see if they can catch one!  Need trap ideas? Find some here.

So, what types of things do leprechauns like to do?

1) Green food:

Want to have a little fun with your kids in the morning? Before the kids wake up, set out empty cups with a couple of drops of green food coloring in the bottom. Put a couple of drops of food coloring in the bottom of their cereal bowl and cover it with cereal. When you pour their milk, it will turn green! That shocked look on your face is sure to spark excitement with your kids!

Keep it going all day. There are lots of foods that can be green with the help of a little food coloring - pudding, sugar cookies, white cake,  jello, and even eggs.

2) Green food coloring in the toilet tank

Drop a little food coloring in the toilet tank. The first person to head to the bathroom in the morning will get a silly green surprise!

3) Decorate:

Decorate a room or hallway in the house with green crepe paper, green and white balloons & shamrocks for the kids to find when they wake up in the morning.  If they are really sound sleepers you could decorate their room while they sleep! Maybe crisscross some crepe paper over the bedroom door so they have to bust through in the morning to get out.

Aside from Leprechaun entertainment, here are a few other fun ideas for your St. Patrick's Day!
