July 4th Independence Day Events

July 4, 2021

Heritage 5 Miler
Starting location: Caroline Street between Lafayette and Frederick Street
 Get ready to bring on your best patriotic reflection of Independence for the Annual Heritage 5 Miler Race.
Bring your flags, your favorite red, white and blue shorts, tutu’s, socks, hats or anything that shows you are ready to show your patriotism.
Specialty awards for best man and woman: Patriotic/independence day running outfit reflecting their support to our military and country.
Race will start approximately 2.5 blocks from location. You may register the same day of the event, but please arrive early to complete full registration.
Race proceeds/benefits:
All proceeds go towards assisting local Veterans and First Responders in the local and surrounding areas of Fredericksburg.
Along with helping our Veterans/First Responders we are the main provider for the Wreaths Across America program for the Oak Hill location in Fredericksburg where we have approximately 1000 Veterans laid to rest.

George Washington's Mount Vernon
Celebrate our nation's independence at the home of the father of our country.
During this patriotic event:
  • Meet George Washington.
  • Watch made-for-daytime fireworks.
  • Observe a moving ceremony in which candidates from across the world become U.S. citizens.
  • Listen to 18th-century music in the upper garden.
  • Watch and learn about flying hot air balloons in the 18th century.
  • Watch a musical performance by the National Concert Band.
Free for members, $28/adult & $15 child

Fourth of July at Ferry Farm
George Washington's Ferry Farm
Celebrate Independence Day at George Washington’s boyhood home! Tour the Washington house, learn about archaeology at Ferry Farm, enjoy a patriotic flag retirement ceremony, interact with historic reenactors, listen to festive music, view living history demonstrations and theatre performances, make crafts, play games, and enjoy other activities for the whole family.
$5.00 per car for a combined parking and event admission pass.
Advance purchase of parking and event admission pass is strongly encouraged. Timed tickets are to ensure the availability of parking for visitors. The average time of a visit is around 2 hours to participate in all the activities. However, only one parking pass needs to be purchased.

A traditional Fourth of July celebration throughout the region a runner's race, parade, craft show, antique auto show, and live entertainment. A trolley ride to George Washington's Boyhood Home adds kid friendly activities and colonial charm to the day which is crowned with a fireworks display.

Children's Roll N Stroll

Caroline St to Market Square

Join the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, Thunder 104.5 and Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation and Events for the Fourth in Fredericksburg Children’s Roll N’ Stroll on Sunday, July 4th at 11:00 am.  Families are encouraged to participate in this Free, fun event!
Line up at the VRE parking lot at the corner of Caroline and Frederick Street begins at 10:30 am. 
The Roll N’ Stroll begins at 11 am. Prizes for best adult and children’s costume and for best decorated bicycle and wagon/stroller. Judging begins at 10:45 am and will be announced at 10:55 am. The procession will follow Caroline Street to Market Square.
Parents are responsible for the safety and behavior of their children. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome. NO FLOATS OR MOTORS, PLEASE.

Public Reading of the Declaration of Independence

Join us on the steps of the Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop as we celebrate our independence. There will be three live readings of the Declaration of Independence at 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3PM. This event is open and free to the public.

Booster Park, Orange, VA
t's BACK! Our next Playin' in the Park Independence Celebration will be held July 2, 2021 at Booster Park. ADMISSION IS FREE. There are NO TICKETS. Donations will be accepted by civic groups for parking services.
The purpose of this event is to provide a family friendly event with fireworks to the citizens of Orange County. Gates open at 6pm, with a live broadcast by 103.1 WJMA and a performance by the Mojo Jam. Fireworks will take place at dark. You are welcome and encouraged to bring picnics, blankets, and lawn chairs. Food vendors will be available onsite. Alcohol is prohibited. Parking is limited, EARLY ARRIVAL IS RECOMMENDED.
This event is brought to you with the support of the County of Orange, the Town of Orange, the Town of Gordonsville, Somerset Seed and Sod, Inc., Mason Insurance Agency Inc, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, Altman Tire & Auto Sales, Orange Tire Inc., and Mr. & Mrs. V. Rea Jones.

The City of Fredericksburg will be working with the Fredericksburg Nationals on a 4th of July fireworks show at the baseball stadium. Additional details will be announced here soon.

Fireworks will be launched from the Reflecting Pool area and will be visible from many locations in D.C. and Virginia.
Duration: 17 minutes
Viewing areas on the National Mall near the Washington Monument and Reflecting Pool will be accessible only through secure access points.
Other Viewing Areas: U.S. Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, National Mall between 14th Street and 3rd Street, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, The White House Ellipse, West Potomac Park, East Potomac Park, Anacostia Park, U.S. Marine Corps Memorial (Virginia), George Washington Memorial Parkway (Virginia).
