The annual Fredericksburg Christmas Parade will carry on this year, but it will be a little different than usual due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Instead of thousands of people lining Caroline and Princess Anne streets to watch the parade go by, this year the floats will stay in place and the people will drive by. The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, December 5.
Floats will be stationed along Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard in Fredericksburg’s Celebrate Virginia South development, starting and ending just past the Poet’s Walk community. Attendees will drive by the floats, making the event similar to a free drive-through light display. This “reverse parade” format will allow for spacing between parade entries and no direct contact with the public.
Registration starts September 10 for people and organizations wanting to enter a float; the deadline will be October 15 or until the 80-float limit is reached. The City is also looking for potential paid sponsors.
