We recognize that the growth of a child is a gradual developmental process unique to each child. Our programs are designed to support each child’s natural curiosity for learning. Young children learn by doing and playing and are motivated by their own desire to make sense of their world.
At Salem Fields Learning Center, your child will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of hands-on activities that are designed to support social, emotional, spiritual, and cognitive development. Our teachers closely observe to see what each child understands and then pose additional challenges to encourage their thinking further. Thus, our learning environment is child-directed, and teacher supported with children learning information in a meaningful and natural context.
At SFLC we understand the importance of Preschool and go the extra mile to ensure your child’s success. We design our preschool program to help prepare each child so that they are kindergarten-ready. Not only do we focus on important academic milestones, but we also focus on the social, emotional, and behavioral milestones a child needs to master before starting school.
While in our Preschool Program, our students will learn through a multitude of activities designed to reach all children. For our instructional curriculum, we try our best to follow Virginia’s Foundational Blocks for Early Learning: Comprehensive Standards for Four-Year-Olds approved by the Virginia Board of Education.
We also utilize a character-building curriculum to help students grow and enhance their social and emotional skills. Our goal in teaching these skills is that our students learn how to appropriately process and respond to their emotions, maintain healthy relationships with their peers and others, and be a positive influence on those around them.
At SFLC we value parental involvement as it is important to a child’s success. Therefore, we encourage parents to be involved in their child’s preschool experience. Our teachers will individually assess the students four times a year and hold at least two parent-teacher conferences throughout the year to help keep parents informed on their child’s growth and needs. There are also assignments and activities sent that will be home weekly and monthly Family Projects for the parents and their child to work on together.
Students will also participate in several field trips throughout the year to places such as Pumpkin Patch, Chuck E Cheese, Gingerbread House Exhibit, Park, and Strawberry Picking.
Daily communication with our parents is important to us and a key part of having positive parent-teacher relationships. We utilize the Pro-Care App to keep our parents updated on their child’s daily activities, mealtimes, nap times, etc.
