Ready to celebrate with a bang? There’s something magical about watching fireworks light up the sky, and attending a public fireworks display is the safest (and easiest!) way to enjoy all that sparkle without the stress.

We’ve rounded up all the local shows happening in Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, and surrounding areas - here's a list.

🚨 Why Safety Matters

We know fireworks are fun — but they can also be dangerous when not handled properly. In 2023, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported nearly 9,700 injuries and 8 deaths related to fireworks. And here’s a shocker: about 700 of those injuries were caused by sparklers alone — which can burn at 2,000°F (yep, hot enough to melt metal!).

Kids and teens are especially at risk. Teens ages 15–19 had the highest injury rates, followed by kiddos ages 5–9. So while fireworks may seem harmless, it’s best to leave the lighting to the pros — or at least follow safety guidelines if you plan to celebrate at home.

🎇 Thinking About Lighting Your Own?

If you're planning to use fireworks at home, here are some smart tips from the experts:

  • Know the law: Fireworks laws vary by city and county in Virginia. Check your local rules before buying or lighting anything!
  • Back it up: Never lean over fireworks when lighting them, and move back quickly.
  • Little hands off: Sparklers are not safe for young kids (especially under 5). They can cause serious burns!
  • No aiming at people: Fireworks are not water balloons — never throw or point them at anyone.
  • One at a time: Light fireworks one-by-one, and step away fast.
  • No DIY: Leave professional-grade fireworks to the pros.
  • Keep water nearby: A hose or bucket can be a lifesaver in case something goes wrong.
  • Don’t relight duds: If a firework doesn’t go off, soak it with water and toss it.
  • Douse your debris: Once the show’s over, soak used fireworks in water before throwing them out to avoid trash fires. Keep your firework trash away from buildings, cars, and other flammable items.

Fireworks can be a fun tradition, but a little caution goes a long way. Whether you’re heading to a big public show or planning something low-key at home, stay safe, stay smart, and have a blast!
