10 Local Family Fishing Spots that will get your family fishing!

Fishing can be fun for the entire family! We have put together a list of some local fishing spots that have been recommended in our area.

As a reminder, a Virginia state fishing license is required for fishing at any of these locations.

1) Motts Run Reservoir

6600 River Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22407

Fish from the banks, bring your boat or rent a boat there.  There is a charge for fishing or boating at the Reservoir. A fishing license is required to fish here.

Hours:

•  April 1 - Memorial Day: 7am to 7pm 

(Limited concessions available M/Th, full concessions F/Sa/Sun)

• Memorial Day - Oct 31: 7am to 7pm

(Full concessions Th/F/Sa/Su/Mo)

• Closed November 1st - March 31st

2. Fredericksburg City Dock

207 Sophia St, Fredericksburg, VA 22401

Public fishing is permitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

3. Lake Anna State Park

6800 Lawyer's Road, Spotsylvania, VA 22551

Park is open 7am to dusk.  Fishing, swimming and launching your own boat is available. The gate opens at 5pm for fishermen. Boat ramp is available, not no rentals at this park.

4. Ni River Reservoir

10516 Gordon Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22407

Open :

• Sa/Su March 2-31, 2024
• Sa/Su/M/Tu from April 1 - Oct 14, 2024

5. Cossey Park

1601 Kenmore Ave, Fredericksburg, VA 22401

A neighborhood park with a small fishing pond. 

6. Lake Mooney

495 Greenbank Dr, Fredericksburg, VA 22406

A 530 acre lake great for fishing for large mouth bass, catfish, sunfish, bluegill and crappie. Boat ramp and canoe launch is available but there is no swimming in the lake. Public restrooms. 

7. Aquia Landing Park

2846 Brooke Rd, Stafford, VA 22554

32-acre Park which is open daily from 8am to dusk. A wooded and marshy area plus a recreational beach. It is located on the Potomac River. The picnic area and restrooms are a plus for families.

8. Abel Lake Reservoir

665 Kellogg Mill Road, Stafford, VA 22554

Fish for Catfish and bass in this stocked fishing area. Parking is available and there is a boat ramp. Open from dawn to dusk year-round. 

9. Curtis Lake

Stoney Hill Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22406

Fishing pier and public boat landing. Open dawn to dusk year-round.

10. Hunting Run Reservoir

9769 Elys Ford Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22407

Open:

• Th/F/Sa/Su from April 4-Oct 14, 2024
• plus Memorial Day, Labor Day & Columbus day
