There are so many wonderful things to see and do in the Nation's Capital but here are a few hidden gems that you might not know about:

1) The Museum of Illusions

Change your perspective in this amazing museum where nothing is as it seems! From mind-blowing rooms and Installations to Images, you won't know which way is up after a day of family fun here! Plus visit the Immigrant Food Restaurant and enjoy their international menu.

Location: 927 H Street, NW, Washington DC

Hours: Sunday-Thursday, 10am - 8 pm

Cost: $22-24

2) Planet Word

Languages come to life in this immersive museum experience. Enjoy interactive exhibits and galleries that bring language to life. Be sure to look for the secret door in the library!

Reserve a puzzle ($30/4 people) and have fun solving the mystery inside.

Bring books you've finished to leave in the on-site lending library or grab a new book to take home.

Location: 925 13th St NW, Washington DC 20005

Hours: Mon/Wed/Th/Fri 10am to 5pm & Sat/Sun 10am to 6pm. (last entry is 90 minutes before closing)

Cost: Free ($15 donation suggested) Reserve your pass online in advance as passes are limited at the door.

3) Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens

Get out and enjoy nature at Kenilworth 362 days a year! See the beautiful lotus flowers, cattails, and lilies, walk the trails, observe the dragonflies, and listen to the birds.  Check their website for special events.

Location: 1550 Anacostia Ave SE, Washington DC 20019

Metro: Deanwood Station, exit at Polk Street.

Hours: 8am to 4pm Daily (closed Thanksgiving, Dec 25 and Jan 1)

Cost: FREE

4) International Spy Museum

Learn about spies, spymasters, and their gadgets - past and present - in this interaction museum. Hear the stories and learn about the engineers. Test your ability as a spy at eight stations throughout the building. The temporary BOND exhibit is open through April 2025, celebrating six decades of 007 vehicles.

Location: 700 L'Enfant Plaza SW, Washington DC 20024

Hours: 9am to 7pm daily

Cost: $29 adults/$17 youth/ free 6 & under; discounts for military, law enforcement, college, and seniors. BOND exhibit requires a separate ticket.

5) National Children's Museum 

Children will love the free play at the National Children's Museum in DC. Let them wander around to tinker, play, blow bubbles, slide down the 3-story slide, and get creative in the many child-friendly exhibits throughout. There is also a mother's room, a quiet room, and a quiet zone for those needing a break. Check out the calendar to find out about special events happening on the day of your visit.

Location: 1300 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington DC 20004

Hours: 9:30 am to 4:30 pm (closed Tuesdays, Thanksgiving and Dec 25th)

Cost: $19/person (under 1 free)
