🌸 Cherry Blossoms in DC - A Spring Time Tradition

A short drive from Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and Stafford, VA

By Jenny Sites March 5, 2026

One of our favorite times of the year to visit Washington, DC is in the spring, when the cherry blossoms burst into bloom and transform the city into a sea of soft pink and white.

This year, peak bloom is currently predicted to fall between March 20 and April 12, 2026. Peak bloom is defined as the period when roughly 70% of the blossoms are open — creating the iconic, picture-perfect views visitors travel from all over to see.

Because bloom timing depends heavily on weather conditions, these dates can shift. Before planning your trip, you can check the Bloom Watch for updated peak predictions and live views of the cherry trees to help you choose the best time to visit.

According to the National Park Service, there are many ways to experience the blossoms — from walking the scenic loop trails and biking through the parks to paddling on the water for a truly unique view.

The famous Yoshino cherry trees can be found lining the Tidal Basin and throughout East Potomac Park, where their reflections over the water create some of the most stunning spring scenery in the region.
