Amazing Apple Crisp

in Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and Stafford, VA

Each week when I head to the grocery store I have to guess what my family will eat. Some weeks we eat 15 apples and some weeks we eat none. The week it seems like apples weren't high on the snack list and we ended up with a lot left and I didn't want them to go bad.

Luckily I remembered that during COVID we created a few recipes, and one of them was apple crisp.  I convinced my husband to peel and cut up the apples while I squished the topping together and the next thing you know it was in the oven and smelled fabulous!

Here's the recipe so you can try it yourself the next time your family decides it isn't an apple-eating week.

Ingredients:

Baked Apples:

  • 8 Apples, peeled and chopped
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Crumble Topping:

  • 1 cup Old Fashion Oats
  • 3/4 cup of flour (all-purpose)
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 10 Tbsp of butter
  • pinch of salt

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

2. Spray an 9x7 or 8x8 glass pan with cooking spray.

3. In a mixing bowl, mix the apples, granulated sugar, and cinnamon.

4. Pour the apple mixture into the glass pan.

5. In the mixing bowl, cube the butter into small cubes.

6. Mix the other topping ingredients: oats, flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon into the bowl with the butter.

7. Using your hands, mix the ingredients together.

8. Place the topping onto of the apple mixture in the glass pan. Spread the mixture evenly across the top of the apples.

9. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes.

10. Let sit for at least 5 minutes, serve warm.  My family suggests adding a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream!
