The Spotsylvania Community Engagement & Tourism Department has published a children’s book entitled “Find Your Spot” that follows a puppy named “Spot” through an array of exciting destinations in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. The book is an extension of the county’s “Find Your Spot” tourism campaign featuring Spotsy’ s popular spots that encourages visitors to seek out attractions and activities that fit them best. The book seeks to highlight some of the one-of-a-kind tourist destinations in Spotsylvania County.
“We want to bring awareness to some of Spotsylvania’s hidden gems in a fun, creative and unique format,” says Lindsay Leach, Spotsylvania County Community Engagement & Tourism Manager. “Spotsylvania is a family destination and our goal is to bring attention to just a few of the many things visiting families can experience during their time in the county. We also hope that children and families who live here learn about new destinations, activities and fun things to do in Spotsy since there is a tendency for people to overlook things in their own backyards. Children will want to follow ‘Spot’ on exciting adventures and the book encourages quality family time with an appreciation for many, great opportunities available in Spotsylvania. Depicting this through the eyes of a fun-loving, adventurous puppy resonates with children and really draws them into the storyline.”
The book is available for sale at the Spotsylvania Visitors Center, located at 4704 Southpoint Parkway for $15. The stuffed plush “Spot” dog that accompanies the book sells for $12. The book and plush can be purchased together for $22 and make a fun gift or souvenir for both locals and visitors.
The Spotsylvania Visitors Center is handing out FREE bookmarks that include destinations featured in the book as part of a limited-time promotion. The public can visit each location and check them off the bookmark, then return it to the visitor’s center for a FREE prize.
A “Find Your Spot Book Kick Off Party” is scheduled for Friday, August 5, 2022, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Spotsylvania County Museum, located at 6159 Plank Road. There will be tours, children’s activities, giveaways, vendors and an ice cream truck on-site.
