How to Make a Homemade Snow Globe

A seasonal craft kids will love

By Macaroni KID and Jenny Sites, Publisher Macaroni Kid Fredericksburg January 23, 2025

Kids love snow globes — watching the magic of the little world inside and the twinkling snow as it slowly twirls through the water inside. But what if they could make their own? That would really bring the magic alive! Here is how your kids can make their very own snow globe at home — and you probably already have all the supplies you need right on hand!

What you need:

  • Cleaned wide-mouth glass jar with lid or a clean baby-food jar will work.
  • Glitter
  • Small figurine or a laminated photo
  • Hot glue gun
  • Water

Directions:

  1. Choose a small figurine or small laminated photo, that will fit easily inside the jar.
  2. Glue the figurine or photo to the inside of the lid. If you're using a photo, you may want a little something to cover any glue that is showing on the bottom. This will also help hold it upright.
  3. Fill jar with water and sprinkle in glitter.
  4. Screw on lid tightly (you can apply some hot glue to rim before closing to ensure a water-tight seal).
  5. Turn upside down, shake up your wintery scene, and watch the magic happen!
