New Laws in VA for 2022

2022 comes with some new laws in VA.  Here are some that you may want to know about:


Plastic Bag Tax 

The City of Fredericksburg implemented the 5-cent tax on disposable plastic shopping bags. This includes grocery stores, convenience stores, and drug stores. If you're shopping in the City, you can avoid this tax by taking your own reusable bags.  


Minimum Wage 

The minimum wage in VA has been increased to $11/hr.


Inhalers & epinephrine in Public Schools: 

This law allows certain school employees the ability to administer albuterol inhalers to students when necessary without liability.  

Students with asthma or anaphylaxis will also be allowed to have and self-administer "inhaled asthma medications or auto-injectable epinephrine."


No Suprises Act (NSA)

This law prevents out-of-network providers from balance billings for emergency services and certain non-emergency services during procedures at in-network facilities.  


Prescription Drug Pricing

A new law has been enacted forcing companies to provide pricing for prescription drugs. 


Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance: 

Minimum limits liability coverage in VA will increase from $25,000/$50,000 to $30,000/$60,000.


Municipal Elections

All municipal elections, which were previously held in May will now be held in November.
