Be confident in the skin you’re in!

Skin, we all have it. It is our body’s largest organ and the first line of defense against disease. As such, we should care for our skin just as much as we do the rest of our body. Additionally, just like the rest of our body, our skin starts to act differently throughout all life stages as we age. We begin in life with flawless baby faces and grow into awkward teen years with acne and blemishes. Once we hit our adult years, all the damage from the moment we come into this world starts to show in the form of glycation, wrinkles, or pigmentation from years of laying out in the sun or just not taking care of ourselves in general. This leads us to blindly reach for any product on the shelf at the store claiming to fix whatever ailments we have. For some lucky ones, these products work just fine. But for others, it gets a little more complicated than that. But how do you know what is right for your skin type? What even is a skin type?! Seeking advice from a licensed esthetician will help you answer these questions.

About Me

My name is Valerie Dennis, owner of Dermalessence – a quaint one-room skincare studio in downtown Fredericksburg that specializes in a more progressive and holistic approach to skincare. I am a regular person and mother of 2 that loves the health & beauty industry and loves to help people.

I started on my professional skincare journey in my early 30’s on an ongoing mission to cure my own skin concerns that started in Middle School. Having been the only one in my family that experienced severe acne, I had no one to turn to. I tried what seemed like every product on the market that claimed to help with no progress, and no matter where I went, I was offered little to no education on how to help myself. I was just given costly suggestions and sent on my way with no care whether it would work or not. Although my experience left a negative impact, it motivated me to go through 1200 hours of training and education to become a Master of the trade as an Esthetician and help others in the same situation. The knowledge I gained of the many factors involved with the condition of someone’s skin and how to treat it properly made a HUGE difference!

What is an Esthetician?

An esthetician is a licensed skin care professional that has gone through a specific amount of education and training depending on what state he/she lives in, and performs various services such as facials, chemical peels, microcurrent, lasers, body treatments, and much more! Think of an esthetician as a personal trainer for your skin. And think of at home skin care regimens and professional treatments as the workouts!

Should I see an esthetician?

If you have any specific skin concerns, whether they are anti-aging, fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, acne, or even to just maintain a youthful appearance, your answer is almost always yes!!! A licensed esthetician will guide you through the type of treatments and skin care products that will be most effective for your skin type and help you reach your goals.

At Dermalessence, what started as a mission to cure myself, turned into a passion to help others do the same. Let me walk you through the entire process and provide you the education you need to reach your goals. From the Skin Health questionnaire to the professional treatments available for your skin type and the products to use at home for your daily skin care regimen and why. I am here to help.
