How about your history spot? Spotsylvania is rich in history and has some of the most unique historical attractions in the nation. Most families are well aware of the many battlefields and National Park Service land in the area. But did you know there are 4 museums right here? The Spotsylvania County Museum will tell an in-depth story of the creation of our great County in 1721 through the Civil War and beyond. Located at the beautiful First Day at Chancellorsville Park, the Spotsylvania County Museum provides the perfect landscape for a walk on the trails, picnic lunch, and a great experience learning about County history. The Shannon Air Museum has one of the rarest collections of aircraft in America. Fun for aviation enthusiasts of all ages, the Shannon Air Museum will take you on a journey through the history of airplanes with an incredible display of aircraft through the decades (all of which are completely functioning and flyable!). The folks at John J. Wright Museum & Cultural Center will welcome you in with open arms to discuss African-American history in Spotsylvania. From prominent individuals to impactful stories and narrations, the John J. Wright Museum & Cultural Center takes a deep- dive into the story of the black community in Spotsylvania County.
Last, but certainly not least, is the Rappahannock Railroad Museum. One of the most unique experiences in the county includes a model train room, a historical artifact room and incredible displays inside antique train cars!
