Preparations for the 2021 Great Train Race are in full swing! To Register or find out more about the race visit gtr.runfarc.com.
The race for young runners 17 and under will take place in downtown Fredericksburg on June 6th. The race will be run on Sophia Street this year with the first runners starting at 7:30 am. The event is building up to be the largest running event in Fredericksburg in over a year!
Runners can compete in one of three events:
- 1 mile Express
- ½ mile George Dashington
- ¼ mile Caboose Run
Packet pick-up will be held at Dick’s Sporting Goods on June 4th and 5th.

The school participation contest is back this year. The schools with the most registered runners will earn cash prizes to support their schools. 1st place will earn $400, 2nd place $250, and 3rd place $100.
We have lots of awesome prizes and goodies planned for runners this year including gift cards, Fredericksburg Nationals tickets for 2022, the coolest medal in town, and a sweet-looking race shirt. So, queue the training montage and get ready to run the Great Train Race! We can’t wait to see everyone on June 6th.
The community support for this race has been amazing. Local businesses have stepped up to be sponsors, provide prizes, and other assistance. It has been a trying year so the level of help the event has received is that much more special. The race is hosted by the Fredericksburg Area Running Club.
