Inspired by this list, we’ve created our own list of the best spring activities that will also help you build points and badges with FXBG Fun.
- Go on a walk – Walk through downtown and learn more about the city’s history with a free Traipse tour. Available tours: African American History, Presidential History, Hidden Gems and Storefront Stories.
- Jump rope – or try some other form of exercise at a local gym or studio. Stay healthy and full of energy for the rest of the fun!
- Go hiking – but before you go, get geared up at River Rock Outfitter.
- Go to a farmer’s market – The Fredericksburg Farmer’s Market is open in Hurkamp Park every Saturday in April-October from 7am-2pm
- Play at a Playground – FunLand of Fredericksburg is really a playground for all ages. Race go-karts on the only 3-tier track in Virginia.
- Go on a picnic – visit any number of restaurants offering take-out and find a good spot at Old Mill Park, Alum Springs Park, Motts Run Reservoir or at Picnic in the Park.
- Visit a farm – Braehead Farm is the only farm within the city. Pick up fresh produce in their market or pick your own.
- Make a bird feeder – let the experts at Wren & Sparrow help you get started
- Visit downtown – Downtown Fredericksburg offers a wide array of unique shopping and dining options, include a number of outdoor options.
- Go on a Scavenger Hunt – Kids aged 4-10 can participate in the Road Scholar Scavenger Hunt. For older kids and adults, see if you can “Spot the Difference”.
- Feed ducks – or goose, Gary the Goose that is. Gary is often spotted hanging out around the City Dock. If you spot him, snap a photo and upload it to Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #fxbgfun. Or, download our “Paint the Town” Set 2 postcards and color in the postcard of Gary (see #12)
- Do an art project – Check out the list of available classes from Liberty Town Arts Workshop or create your own masterpiece by coloring or painting postcards from the “Paint the Town” series (Download Set 1, Download Set 2).
- Donate old winter clothing – or any other items in good condition to MANARC, a non-profit re-sale store that raises money to support veterans’ organizations. Both donation and purchase amounts will count for points.
- Play a board game – find unique and educational games at Jaberwocky Books and Toys, and Rockinghorse Gallery or find a classic board game in an antique shop downtown.
- Look for daffodils – and tulips, roses, begonia, hydrangeas, etc. Take the Garden Day tour through Fredericksburg on April 20 (part of Historic Garden Week).
- Go to a baseball game – Attend a game during the FredNats inaugural season and make sure to check out the History of Baseball in Fredericksburg exhibit behind the jumbotron, created in collaboration with the Fredericksburg Area Museum.
- Play a Sport – Running is a sport and there are a number of opportunities to run a race in Fredericksburg this spring. The Marine Corps Marathon Foundation is holding their virtual Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon and Semper 5ive events through May 16. The Fredericksburg Area Running Club is holding The Great Train Race and Battling Cancer 5k in June.
- Go Horseback riding – or take a horse-drawn carriage ride through downtown Fredericksburg with Fredericksburg Olde Towne Carriage Tour
- Hunt for books – Antique shops and used-books stores like Riverby Books are perfect places to find rare and unusual books.
- Make ice cream – or better yet, eat ice cream (or frozen custard)! Abner B’s, Carl’s, and Goolrick’s are great places for a sweet, frozen treat
- Visit some place new – or maybe just new to you! Check out places like Mary Washington House, Historic Kenmore, The Rising Sun Tavern, Hugh Mercer Apothecary, The James Monroe Museum and the Fredericksburg Area Museum
