Where will you feed your Cheesesteak cravings?

Celebrate National Cheesesteak Day on March 24th in Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and Stafford, VA

By Erika Patten- Miller March 18, 2021

Each year on March 24th, National Cheesesteak Day is celebrated.  Growing up in Pennsylvania, I have eaten cheesesteaks from many restaurants, and everyone seems to have their own “spin” on them.  The cheesesteak started in Philadelphia, PA in the 1930’s, but the Fredericksburg area was definitely ready for my cheesesteak challenge.  I visited some of our local restaurants on the quest to find some of the best cheesesteaks in our area. Here's what I discovered:

Patriot Subs

1131 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Fredericksburg, VA 22401

(540) 681-1458

This cheesesteak is made with Boar’s Head Roast Beef so the meat was lean and tasty. It was topped with sauteed peppers & onions, Pepperhouse Gourmaise, and Provolone cheese.  It had a really nice kick to it.

Brothers Pizza

3605 Plank Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22407

(540) 548-0400

They make their cheesesteak with lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo.  Fried onions were optional, so of course I added them!  This cheesesteak was wonderful and fresh off the grill.

Scafa’s Italian Restaurant

10349 Courthouse Rd, Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA 22553

(540) 898-7819

This cheesesteak included lettuce, tomato, mayo, and onion.  It was made on their homemade bread with a bit of cheese sprinkled on top.  It was savory and flavorful.

Here are a few other restaurants in the area where you can find a cheesesteak:

Vinny’s

10657 Spotsylvania Ave, Fredericksburg, VA 22408

Danny’s

10657 Spotsylvania Ave, Fredericksburg, VA 22408

Roma’s

116 Olde Greenwich Dr, Fredericksburg, VA 22408

Mason Dixon Café

2100 Princess Anne St, Fredericksburg, VA 22401

Buffalo Philly’s

10209 Southpoint Pkwy, Fredericksburg, VA 22407

Where do you get your best cheesesteak?  There are so many versions of them out there.  Whether you like spicy, sweet, cheesy, plain, or loaded, you can find it here in our area.  Let’s celebrate this year’s Cheesesteak Day together and support our local businesses.
