in Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and Stafford, VA

By Erika Patten-Miller February 18, 2021

It’s movie night and it's cold outside.  You’ve watched Frozen for the billionth time, but you are ready for something new.  I have just the thing.  I have picked out 10 winter movies for you to snuggle up and have the perfect family movie night.  Let me know if you watch them and what you think! Do you have any favorite winter movies of your own that you like to watch? Share them on our Facebook Page!  We’d love to know.

Here are just 10 of my favorites (in no particular order):

1. Ice Age

A wooly mammoth, a sloth, and a saber-tooth tiger find a baby and need to work together to return it to its family.  There are currently 5 Ice Age Films and several shorts if you would like to have a marathon.

2. Happy Feet

A penguin that is a bit different than the rest.  This film shows that everyone is special in their own way.  It also has some catchy tunes.

3. Mr. Popper’s Penguins-

Inspired by the book, Mr. Popper (played by Jim Carey), inherits some penguins and has some very silly adventures.  They are adorable! Make it a book/movie weekend!

4. Abominable

A story of 3 teenagers trying to reunite a Yeti with his family.  Ask your kids what they would do if they found a Yeti.

5. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Everyone loves a teddy bear and Pooh is such a great friend to everyone in the Hundred Acre Wood.  Maybe you could have a teddy bear picnic before the movie?

6. Chill Out, Scooby-Doo

Who doesn’t love to solve a mystery?  Do you remember sitting around on Saturday mornings, with your bowl full of cereal watching cartoons? Keep those memories alive and solve the mystery of the Abominable Snowman.  Who is behind the mask?

7. 101 Dalmatians

This is a must-watch before you see the new film “Cruella” that will be released in May.  Fun fact- Can you count all the spots in the film? There are 6,469,952.

8. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

I know, I know, this is NOT a winter movie, but it’s a classic, and it has snow in the title, so I am counting it 😉. This was Disney’s first animated feature film and the first feature-length animated film in U.S. History.

9. Togo

This one is for the older kiddos.  This film is a true story about the 1925 serum run to Nome, its sled dog Togo, and his owner Leonhard Seppala.  It gives credit to Togo a true hero and an amazing dog.

10. Anastasia

This was FOX’s first animated film and the cast is wonderful- Meg Ryan, Kelsey Grammar, Christopher Lloyd, John Cusak, and so many more.  It has wonderful music and it was made into a Broadway musical.
