10 Indoor Boredom Busters!

By Jenny Sites September 16, 2021

1) Fashion Show:

Pull out some old clothes and put on a fashion show!

2) Make a Play:

Grab the tub of Halloween costumes, pick a character and put on a play together!

3) Dance Routine:

Find a fun song and make up a dance routine. Teach the rest of the family and do it together.

4) Stuffy Hide & Seek:

Choose a stuffed animal to hide somewhere in the house and then send your child(ren) off to find it.  If they have trouble, give them clues or use "hot" or "cold".

5)  Create an obstacle course:

Use whatever items you have around the house - pillows to jump over, a line of painters tape on the floor to "balance" across, a blanket to crawl under, plastic cups to wind through, box to crab walk around.

Use a timer to see who can do it the fastest.

Make it harder by trying to do it while holding a plastic egg or a ball on a spoon while doing it!

6) Beauty Studio:

Dig out the hairbrushes, make-up and nail polish.  Have a seat and let the kids pamper you or each other in your make-shift home salon. Don't want your kids to put make-up or nail polish on you?  Print out a set of hands and a face on cardstock and let them decorate that!

7) Indoor Bowling:

Set up some plastic cups at one end of the hallway. Stand at the other end and roll a ball towards the cups.

8) Indoor Basketball:

Pull out an empty laundry basket (you might have to dump the clothes out of one, but that's ok) and set it across the room and toss a ball into the basket. Instead of a ball you could also use bean bags or (clean) balled-up socks.

Use a timer to see who can make the most baskets in a minute.

Make it harder by placing tape on the floor in lines to mark the distance. Place 3 lines on the floor and see who can make the most baskets from each line.

9) Create an obstacle course:

Use whatever items you have around the house - pillows to jump over, a line of painters tape on the floor to "balance" across, a blanket to crawl under, plastic cups to wind through, box to crab walk around.

Use a timer to see who can do it the fastest.

Make it harder by trying to do it while holding a plastic egg or a ball on a spoon while doing it!

10) Act out a book:

Choose a book with multiple characters and take turn reading the book as each character.  Make up fun voices and enjoy a good laugh.
