5 Things to Do to Start off Your New Year right!

By Jenny Sites December 31, 2020

Each year when January rolls around I tend to feel the need to organize after the craziness of the holiday season. We have new toys that have come into the house, clothing has changed season, and we have a bunch of decorations to be put away. All of these can seem a little overwhelming, but with a deep breath and a quick to do list, it's easier to stay on track.

1) Return or exchange any gifts that you received that are the wrong size or a duplicate.  This is an easy way to declutter and feel that you've gotten something accomplished.

2) Make a list of projects that you'd like to do. Once you have the list, rewrite them in the order of priority. Beside each item, make a list of anything that you need but don't have to get this project complete.

3) Get your tax documents together.  Place everything that you have related to your taxes for the year in 1 container. As tax documents come in the mail, you can easily add them to those container. Once everything is in, you're all set to get those taxes submitted and check off another to do!

4) Schedule medical appointments. Take this time to look at the calendar and see when each family member is due for their next physical, dental visit, eye exam, lab work, etc.  Call the offices and get those appointments scheduled. May offices are scheduling out months in advance for routine visits and this allows you to get the day and time that works best for your family.

5) Create 3 goals for yourself for the new year. Rather than making a resolution, try setting goals. Be specific, define how you will measure the goal, make small and reasonable ways to achieve the goal and set a deadline.

For example: Lots of people would like to get heathier this year. Setting this goal would look something like this:  I will exercise for 120 minutes each week. My goal is to lose 20 pounds. I will set up a check in system with a buddy to keep me on track. I will weigh myself once a month to track my progress. I will lose the 20 pounds by June 1, 2021.
