Thanksgiving is a day to be thankful for all you have. The Tuesday after Thanksgiving - Giving Tuesday - is for giving to charities and non-profits who help make our communities better places.
For the past 5 years I’ve volunteered at The Table, a Fredericksburg food pantry that serves the community to help those that need food in our area. The Table runs from donations and grants and every year Giving Tuesday helps fund The Table for the future.
At The Table I’ve always worked with children who come in with shoppers to find books to read. From an early age reading has been a passion of mine and I’ve wanted to make sure that everyone has access to books in their home. Volunteering at The Table has provided me invaluable experience and a greater understanding of our world. It has made me more thoughtful, well-rounded person, and has sparked a passion for community service
 | Giving Tuesday at The Table was always filled with music and happiness. There were vegetable shaped balloons outside on the table that invited people to donate and inside there was a watering can for collecting loose change. If people wanted to donate online there was a button on their Facebook page that allowed for people to donate virtually. With Covid-19 it has all been moved virtual with the button on their Facebook page to allow people to donate. |
Giving Tuesday has always been a day of hope and joy for me. For The Table it meant being able to help serve and grow community for another year. This year it means even more to all of the organizations participating. These nonprofits have helped so many people this year and this is a way for those who can to give back.
