Student Day Care option offered at The Good Shepherd Preschool

Day Care for Students in grades K-5th in addition to their preschool program!

By Gary Wagner, Director, The Good Shepherd Preschool August 6, 2020

As area school districts implement distance learning at the opening of the 2020-2021 school year, requiring students to do school work from home, some families may be faced with having to find child care while both parents are at work.

The Good Shepherd Preschool, one of the Fredericksburg area’s newest preschools, is expanding its program to include a student day care option for children enrolled in area schools in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Located in Fredericksburg at 2221 Jefferson Davis Hwy., The Good Shepherd Preschool’s newly offered student day care program is intended to provide families with a safe and supportive option for their students in grades K-5. The full-day program runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both three-day-a-week and five-day-a-week options are available.

Students will be able to access on-site Wi-Fi using their laptops or Chromebooks to do their schoolwork. Day care staff will be available to assist students with their assignments and provide additional programmed activities for the students during the day.

“We have a spacious educational building that features several classrooms, a large gymnasium and outdoor playground,” explains preschool director Gary Wagner. “We can provide families with a comfortable place for their children to do their schoolwork, and our teaching staff will supervise a daily schedule that will include study periods as well as recreational and other developmental activities.”

Additional services offered by The Good Shepherd Preschool and Day Care include before-school care from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and after-school care from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for both preschoolers and students in grades K-5.

The Good Shepherd Preschool offers both three-day-a-week and five-day-a-week programs for 3-year-old and 4-year-old children. Families have the option of enrolling their preschoolers in either a half-day program where classes meet from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, or a full-day program from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. All preschool classes will be supervised by experienced lead teachers assisted by classroom aides.

Operated as an educational ministry of Highway Assembly of God, The Good Shepherd Preschool will offer a strong academic program that integrates Christian character and biblical truths into every area of learning.

“Our objective is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for preschool children to develop foundational learning skills,” emphasizes Wagner. “Our teaching staff will use a carefully designed curriculum enriched by music and physical education, arts and crafts, dramatic and creative play, and field trips, for example, to support all dimensions of child development.”

Wagner adds, “We will be intentional in training children to grow academically, to be spiritually prepared for Christian service, and to develop a lifelong Christian worldview, while having a lot of fun.”
