I posted this photo on Facebook asking for some advice on how to get the perfect peeled, hard-boiled egg – and boy did you all come through! I never knew there were so many ways to make hard-boiled eggs so I thought I’d put them all together so you can find your favorite.
These are the top 7 “tried-and-true” boil and peel methods you shared:
(1) Start the water boiling, add 2 TSP of vinegar and boil for 10 minutes. Dump the water and put in an ice bath until cooled, then peel. – Gina Murray |
(2) InstaPot for 5-6 minutes on cook with 2-3 cups of water (using the rack insert) – Simone Kerr |
(3) Bake your eggs in a muffin tin at 325 degrees for 20 minutes. Remove and put immediately in an ice bath for 10 minutes. – Sarah Dickinson |
(4) Add baking soda to your boiling water. Boil the eggs, remove from the stove and let list for 12-15 minutes. Rinse in cold water and peel. – Patricia Holloway |
(5) Boil the eggs, run them under cold water. Using a mason jar, put just enough water to cover the egg, insert the egg and shake. The peel will slide off. – Allison R. Moody |
(6) Boil the water first. Put the eggs in the boiling water using a slotted spoon. Cover pot to return to boil for 13 minutes. Remove and place in cold water. – Lindsey Slivka |
(7) Pressure cooker for 5 minutes with a 5 minute natural release. 5 minutes in ice water. – Matthew Minneman |
TIPS: Lots of you mentioned using eggs that are older - at least a week. Other tips include adding things to the water – salt, baking soda, vinegar plus most people suggested an ice bath before peeling. Basically all of these techniques use science to separate the shell from the egg white, thus making it easier to peel. (Great experiment for your kids to try! Which one works best?)
So, now your eggs are perfectly boiled and peeled … what are you going to make? Here are some suggestions:
