10 Things to do indoors during Quarantine

By Kimora Bryant June 18, 2020

During quarantine many of us find ourselves looking up “ things to do when you’re bored” or “things to do in your house”. Well you’ve found the right place! I myself have spent many hours just watching Youtube and re-runs of my favorite shows, but that can get boring REALLY quick. So, in my search for things to keep my brain moving and keep me away from a screen 24/7, I have found some fun activities that you might enjoy as well.

1) Drawing is so much fun! You don't have to be Picasso or da Vinci to make a work of art. All you need is some paper, and some kind of writing tool, then BOOM! A piece of art that could be displayed in a museum. Drawing is based on interpretation, so you are the only judge of whether or not your art is A+ worthy.

2) Painting is a great way to express your creativity. It is just as fun as drawing, but a little more messy.

3) Host a themed dinner party with your family. Dinner can be boring sometimes, so why not “ spice” it up? Find your favorite movie or book and base a dinner off of it. One of my favorite movies is “The Princess and the Frog”. So if I were hosting a dinner I would make some little frogs as name tags and firefly lights for the table. As for the food portion I would make gumbo and beignets! The possibilities are endless and you could also dress up based on your theme.

4) Learn to make origami. Plain white folded paper has no flair, so why not add some? Origami is a little time consuming if you're just starting out, but once you practice and create lots of paper friends, you’ll become a pro! These can also be used as a cute and semi-easy gift for a friend or family member.

5) Try sewing, crocheting, or embroidery. These may take a while to master, but the end products will be amazing!

6)  Learning a magic trick.  Abra kadabra! Magic tricks are a great way to show off your skills to your family. Maybe try to make a coin disappear or even a levitating pencil.

7) Create a puzzle. Normal puzzles have cute pictures of dogs and cats *yawn*. To make your puzzles custom, print off a picture you want and then cut it up into pieces, now mix them up and try to put them back together.  There are also templates that you can use if you want precise cut and fit.

8) Have a spa day. Relaxing is especially important right now, and what better way to relax than with some soothing spa music and cucumbers on your eyes? You can make simple face masks, give yourself a mani/pedi or just read a book. Now grab your robe and ice tea then sit back and relax!

9) Writing is a very relaxing and fun thing to do. It does not have to be a novel or a 14,000 page book, it could just be a short story or a poem! Use your imagination and create a story about anything such as:  what you would do if you ruled the world for a day or a poem about your best friend.

Want to share your writing? Submit it HERE and you might just see it in the  Macaroni Kid Fredericksburg newsletter Young Writer's Corner!

10) Make bracelets. One way to solidify a friendship is making friendship bracelets, and since we don't get to see our friends or extended family a lot anymore, make and send them a bracelet so they know you love them. It doesn't  have to be super complex, just something simple and maybe a nice letter, then off it goes!  Who doesn't love to get mail!?!
