Curiosity Day 2019!

Happy Birthday Curious George!

By Jenny Sites September 26, 2019

Curious George is a classic! The funny little monkey gets into everything – just like a child! The first Curious George book tells the story of “The man in the yellow hat” who sees a monkey in the jungle during a trip to Africa. He decides to capture the monkey – with the help of his big yellow hat – and bring him back to America on a big ship. George manages to find himself in a number of interesting and unusual predicaments, thanks to his curiosity, but is eventually reunited with the Man in the Yellow Hat and taken to the zoo to live.

Future adventures of George enlighten us on how George manages to escape from the zoo and endear himself into the home of the Man in the Yellow Hat.  As you can imagine, the adventures don’t stop there – George is a curious little monkey with lots of time to get into trouble!

Curious George’s illustrator and co-author, Hans Augusto Rey, was born on September 16, 1898 in Hamburg, Germany. Each year, in honor of his birthday, we celebrate Curiosity Day!

This year Macaroni Kid Fredericksburg celebrated Curiosity Day on Friday, September 13th with a Curious George story time and scavenger hunt! Local children and their parents joined us in the reading of the original “Curious George” story followed by “Curious George and the Birthday Surprise”. Kids sported their choice of a “Big Yellow Hat” or birthday party hat and even helped us sing Happy Birthday to George!  Following story time the curious kiddos grabbed a scavenger hunt sheet and ventured through the Spotsylvania Towne Centre looking for 6 pictures of Curious George on adventures!  A big thank you to all of the families who came out to celebrate with us – we look forward to seeing you at another fun Curiosity Day next year!
