It's no mystery that things can really start to heat up in Fredericksburg in July and August. What to do with the kiddos when it's too hot to be outdoors? Here are a 10 places you can keep cool in the Burg!

​1. The Central Rappahannock Regional Library (CRRL)
Want to help your kids and teens foster a lifelong love of reading and learning? How about a trip to the library! Throughout the summer, CRRL is offering special events to keep young minds engaged. Everyone can sign up for one of three summer reading programs at any of CRRL’s eight locations or online at www.librarypoint.org/summer

2. The Children's Museum of Richmond - Fredericksburg
The Children’s Museum of Richmond, a not-for-profit organization, exists to create innovative learning experiences for all children, and those who support them, that inspire the next generation of creative problem solvers. With exhibits like "the Tot Spot," "Automotive Area," and "the Book Nook", the Children’s Museum of Richmond - Fredericksburg is the perfect place to spend the day indoors!

3. Liberty Center ,  AMF Fredericksburg Lanes or Splitsville Lanes
What better way to get your family out of the house than a little friendly competition? Liberty Center bowling has the "Summer Strikes" program where it is $2.00 games, $2.00 shoe rental from Memorial Day until Labor Day. AMF has the option to pay just and play once all summer long with a Summer Games pass; and don't miss Splitsville's "2 for Tuesday." Every Tuesday, bowl for $2 a game, per person, plus get $2 shoes from 4 p.m. to close.

4. Local Movie Theaters Summer Movie Programs
While taking the family to the movies these days can easily turn into an expensive endeavor, 3 of our local movie theaters offer a summer kids movie program that presents a special selection of family films each week during the summer at no or little charge. Check out the schedule! Lego Batman, anyone?

5. Children's Theater at Riverside Center
The Children's Theater at Riverside Center is an experience in the magic of live theater for all ages. Presented as Show Only ($14) or Lunch 'n' Show ($18) on select Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Riverside is an excellent destination for family fun.

6. KD’z Kidz World
KD’z Kidz World is the first family entertainment and bounce house facility of its kind to serve the Stafford and Fredericksburg areas in Virginia. Featuring a new facility that opened in 2012, KD’z Kidz World offers a safe and clean play environment for kids of all ages. They offer some great deals and discounts during the week! Redeem this coupon for "Food Day Friday" and receive one hot dog and one small drink for just $1.00!

7. Shannon Air Museum
The Shannon Airport reopened the historic museum in late spring 2017. Among the planes is the only known surviving Vultee V-1A, a SPAD VII biplane fighter from World War I. In addition to the New Shannon Air Museum, the Shannon Airport is home to The Robins Nest Café, a pilot shop, and a professional flight school. 

8. Central Park Funland
Central Park Funland is Virginia’s Premier Indoor/Outdoor Family Fun Center. With over 20 rides and attractions and a massive arcade, with over 100 video and ticket & prize games, a day with the kiddos will fly by at Funland! Save some money with a season pass!

9. Wiggle Worms
In the event of heat wave, there is good chance you and your family have been spending A LOT of time together indoors. Need a break? Visit Wiggles Worms at Spotsylvania Towne Center. Wiggle Worms is a fully licensed hourly drop off entertainment center for children ages 16 months to 10 years old. With convenient 1 to 5 hours of service, no reservations or contracts required, and reasonable rates, you enjoy some solo time to grab a cup of coffee or visit Costco.

10. Pots and Palettes
Pots and Palettes specializes in "paint your own pottery" for all ages. You walk in during normal hours and pick out the piece to paint. They then help you with your selection of colors and offer suggestions on techniques for finishing your selection. On Thursdays, they host Family day with a two for one studio fee.
