Fall Photography Tips from Your Local Family Photographer

By Pamela Hughey-Shook September 21, 2016
It’s definitely starting to feel like fall and I can’t wait to get in front of a camera for my own fall family photo shoot! As a photographer myself, it's always so exciting to see the warm and coziness of the sessions with gorgeous scenery and perfect temperatures.

Are you planning to do a fall photo session this year? I hope so, and if not you should definitely consider it. Here are a few tips to help you plan for a great session and great photos.

Be prepared to invest. You must be willing to invest to get a good quality photo and photographer.  Having a personal natural light photography session experience is definitely worth the cost.

Shop around. Make sure you enjoy that photographers work to ensure your happiness on your final product and experience.

Schedule your session. This time of year photographers are in high demand. Make sure to find your photographer and schedule your session soon.

Outdoor natural light photography session. The whole point of a fall shoot is to capture the scenery. Make sure your session is scheduled at the right time of day for gorgeous photos -- around sunrise and sunset will give you the best foliage and light for your beautiful family photo.

Wardrobe. I may be a whiz with a camera, but I'm no fashionista, so I utilize Pinterest to help with color coordination. Here’s a board I often go to so I can guide my clients when they need a little extra help deciding on wardrobe choices or color schemes.  https://www.pinterest.com/colleenphoto/what-to-wear-family-portraits/.

One final tip. When you get your fall photos done, use them. I’m talking holiday cards, gifts, canvas, etc. After all the time spent on preparing and investing in your session, don’t let those amazing images collect dust in an online gallery. Check out this cool memo pad one of my clients made.  Showcase that beautiful family of yours!
